Well as some of you know I have started to venture into the world of Flat Track Racing this year and what a welcome suprise! I was hooked when I went to the Sacremento Mile for the Foothill Sun Gazette and first person I spoke to was the family of Scooter Vernon while waiting in line to pickup pass (long line didn't really understand why i was in the same line) Then I met Scooter and followed hiim throughout the day. It was a hard luck day but you could really feel the passion for racing he has. I searched out Dave Hoening www.flattrakfotos.com. I am a firm believer in finding the best photographer at an event and talk with them it seems to make the day go by much easier. He was very helpful and even suggested certain things to look for. Need alot more photographers like him...
I shot the race and posted a winners photo of @bsmithForty2 and found him liking it 5 minutes later! That was exciting knowing that people actually looked at the photos i posted.
I then took a chance and contacted the www.californiaflattrack.com.
After speaking with Randy Kremlacek and telling him what I wanted to do I found myself at the Track in Lemoore meeting Carol Swanson who if you don't know her you are missing out as she is awesome and loves the sport and her riders!
After Lemoore the family nature of flat track racing started to show why its popularity is growing. I don't think it has anything to do with the X Games, Wall Street Journal or Sports Illistrated articles either those entity's like myself see alot of good people doing things that are competative but friendly that you would want to take yours kids to see the show because it is a show like no other! The little racers having great fun on there 50CC bikes or the young future stars like Clayton Williams who has a smile for everyone are the stars of the future.
The stars are definitely around the tracks in California as I soon found out that racers race when ever the gates open. Watching Mikey Rush and Steve Bonsey win races were just a couple of the highlights.
Going forward to 2016 I am working on a few projects that will include rider interviews and ofcourse lots of photos. If any one wants to help the sport with time, money or any other thing you may think of let me know and I can put you in touch with the right people.
At the end of a long race day and the stands were so full that the concessions ran out of water and sodas it is guys like Jack Jones who I ended the day talking about racing and getting a nice cold bottle of water from that make me smile and look forward to 2016 see you at the track!
